Sunday 13th April – very far from home

I woke this morning to a message from Nikki in San Francisco asking how I was, popped onto Facebook to see what else was happening in the world and immediately regretted my excitement of getting a message.

It was from my cousin telling me that my grandma was very sick, was in hospital and they’d all had the call to go in and essentially say goodbye.

Its the first time I’ve regretted coming away. There was nothing I could do but wait for more news.

I worked all day and still had heard nothing more from anyone. My friends here and at home were amazing at checking I was ok, Alan at the lodge was too nice to me and finally I had a good cry! He and Rachel invited me to their flat for a glass of wine and a chat which was lovely, talking through going home or staying here helped a lot.

Went to bed awaiting news but hoping that none was hopefully a good thing.
